RAYET is the next generation deployable warning sign that traffic police rely on to create a safe working environment around them in traffic situations.

- It provides increased safety and a better user experience on multiple key points compare to the existing solution:
- It is more compact and portable during transport.
- It weighs less, due to a unique perforated fabric that makes it less sensitive to wind and hard weather.
- It is quicker to deploy when it matters, with button activated leg extensions.
- It has an increased visibility by being higher in size and with a lit-up light feature behind the fabric.
- It is furthermore equipped with a unique system with a 360° sensor-activated camera and red light at its top. The sensor-activated speed camera will not only capture vehicles moving towards the police officers at too high a speed, it will also start flashing to notify and warn everybody at the scene, including the driver of the approaching car.

This project was done in collaboration with the Police and the Police Education Unit in Sweden.

Problem

The Swedish Police's current deployable warning sign hasn't been updated for decades. The low height of this sign makes it impossible to see from distance if a car is in front blocking the view. Also the reflective material is only visible if a light source is directed towards it. The police officers interviewed also commented on the weight and size of the sign when transported and how it is difficult to handle and pack inside the police car.

Solution

1. Adjustable height

By including an extra red light
on top and increasing its height at the same time, the warning sign is now more visible for everybody.
Compared with the current solution (height: 88 cm),the new product can be extended up to 190cm.

2. Weighs less

RAYET uses as proven tripod structure and has added weight in the feet for increased stability.

3. Interchangeable battery

RAYET has long-lasting interchangeable batteries for the power efficient safety lights and the sensor and camera unit. An extra set of batteries can be charged and be at close hand in the police car.

4. Press and lock

RAYET has easy deployable legs that by a push of a button can be extended or retracted intuitively and quickly.

5. 360° Sensor-activated camera

The safety sign is equipped with a camera with a built-in speed sensor which can be pointed toward approaching traffic and used for detecting the speed of other vehicles. If the recommended speed limit is exceeded by an approaching vehicle, the red light will flash to alert the vehicle to slow down, if not, the camera will be activated and take a photo of the vehicle's license plate. During transport and for protection, the light unit is stored inside the housing of the warning sign's top.
